The mission of the Riverbank Parks and Recreation Department is to strengthen the community through programs, services, and facilities in order to foster good physical and mental wellness. The Department encourages community involvement and participation in all activities and special events. Events and programs delivered by the Parks and Recreation Department are designed to create lifelong memories and connections. The Department and its staff embrace the vision that “Parks Make Life Better” for everyone.

Riverbank is home to a total of 16 parks, including 3 major city parks, a skate park, and a sports complex. The city is also the home of Jacob Myers Park, a 55-acre regional park located along the Stanislaus River. The park has amenities such as a playground, barbecue areas, boat ramp, picnic gazebo, and wedding gazebo. A one-mile loop pedestrian/bike trail and group camping area are open to the public as well as the City’s first dog park. Major community events include the Riverbank Cheese & Wine Festival held every 2nd weekend in October, the Halloween Haunted Hayride at Jacob Myers Park, and the annual Christmas Parade. The City of Riverbank offers something for everyone and prides itself on being a place where residents and visitors alike can enjoy a healthy quality of life.

The Director of Parks and Recreation is an FLSA exempt department head and a key member of the City’s management team who reports directly to the City Manager. The Director is responsible for the overall management of the City’s Parks and Recreation Department, including recreation, aquatics, and cultural and community events. Additionally, this position is responsible for the planning, construction, maintenance and rental of parks and community facilities, including city offices.
