Highlights for this month include:

    Parks and Recreation

    • The Recreational Trail Program (Motorized) has been announced for another round of funding by the Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division. Applications are due 10/18/2024.

    Water Quality and Conservation

    • The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation's WaterSMART Large-Scale Water Recycling Program is accepting applications on a rolling basis until the final deadline of 9/30/2024.
    • The WaterSMART Drought Response Program has opened applications for the Drought Resiliency Projects (DPR) grant, which are due 10/7/2024. The grant is divided into four tasks for specific projects related to drought resiliency.
    • U.S. Bureau of Reclamation's Water and Energy Efficiency Grants (WEEG) program is currently accepting applications due 10/30/2024. WEEG provides funding for projects that result in quantifiable water savings, implement renewable energy components, and support broader sustainability benefits.

    Housing and Homelessness

    • The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has announced Round 2 of funding for the Pathways to Removing Obstacles to Housing (PRO Housing) program. The minimum award amount is $1,000,000 and the maximum award amount is $7,000,000. Applications are due 10/15/2024.
    • The California Department of Housing and Community Development (CalHCD) announced its calendar for upcoming funding opportunities. The following are anticipated to be released later this year or early next year: Homekey+; Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities; Multifamily Housing Program; Infill Infrastructure Grant Program; Farmworker Housing Grant Program; HOME Investment Partnership Program; and Emergency Solutions Grant.

    Public Safety and Criminal Justice

    • The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation Grant is opening on 10/10/2024. Funding can be used for lifesaving equipment for public safety personnel, prevention education, scholarships and continued education, disaster relief, and support for military members. Only 600 applicants will be awarded, so submitting an early application is highly recommended.
    • The U.S. Department of Justice has opened the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program for another round of funding. Applications are due 10/16/2024 for Grants.gov and 10/22/2024 for JustGrants.
    • The Organization Wellness Program application has opened and is being accepted on a rolling basis. This is a non-monetary fund that provides resources and services for agencies creating or enhancing wellness programs.

    Sustainability and Climate Action

    • The Environmental Protection Agency is continuing to accept applications for Community Change Grants until 11/21/2024 or funding is exhausted. Funding appears to be going quickly, so starting an application as soon as possible is highly recommended.

    Emergency Response and Disaster Mitigation

    • FEMA and CalOES have announced deadlines for the Notices of Interest (NOIs) for their annual pre-disaster mitigation programs: Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC) and Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA). NOIs are due 10/15/2024 for both programs. NOFOs for application information have not been posted yet.
    • The U.S. Forest Service plans on announcing funding through the Community Wildfire Defense Grant in November this year. This program provides funding to communities at risk from wildfires to develop or revise their community wildfire protection plans and carry out projects within those plans.
