CARPD Advocacy in Action - Update on SB 499

Great news on CARPD’s sponsored bill SB 499 (Stern)! Last week the bill officially advanced out of the Assembly Local Government Committee on a 7-0 vote. This was a major step in our bill’s journey and it now heads to the Assembly Floor! Big shout out to Senator Henry Stern, CARPD Board Secretary Doug Nickles, and CARPD Executive Director Matthew Duarte for their testimony and support at the hearing. And thank you to the CARPD members who submitted letters in support!

What's next? It needs 41 votes on the Assembly Floor, then Senate concurrence to remove the LHMP sunset date, and finally, the Governor's signature. We'll be back with more updates after August 18th, when the Legislature returns from recess. Stay tuned! Thank you to our members for your continued support and advocacy!

To watch the full hearing and view Matt and Doug’s primary witness testimony in support of the bill, go to the Committee’s website here (1:47:00 mark): https://www.assembly.ca.gov/media/assembly-local-government-committee-20250702?time[media-element-4167]=6419.222037
