DIRECTOR OF PARKS & RECREATION

Position Summary:

Under the general direction of the City Manager and Assistant City Manager, the Director of Parks and Recreation provides executive leadership and strategic oversight for all departmental operations, including recreation programming, park services, personnel management, financial administration, policy development, community partnerships, and long-range planning.

The Director plans, organizes, staffs, directs, and evaluates all functions of the department while ensuring programs and services remain responsive to the evolving recreational, cultural, and social needs of the community. Responsibilities include preparing and administering the department's operating and capital budgets; establishing departmental policies, procedures, and performance expectations; overseeing recreation programs conducted at parks, community centers, and aquatic facilities; and ensuring the effective delivery of services throughout the organization.

The Director continuously evaluates community interests, demographic trends, available resources, and emerging recreation needs to develop innovative and inclusive programs that enhance quality of life. The position coordinates departmental activities with local school districts, civic organizations, nonprofit agencies, churches, and other community partners to expand recreational opportunities and encourage public participation.
